- ST. THOMAS NOVITIATE HOUSE, MARIKUNNU
When Fr. James Pallivathukal was the regional superior, he purchased a plot of land at Poolakadavu near Calicut city. On 3 July 1966, the foundation stone for a formation house was laid by the then Prior General, Fr.Canisius. On 15 August 1967, the Assumption Aspirants House was consecrated and Fr.Caesarius was appointed the first rector. In 1969, this house became the headquarters of St.Thomas vice-province.
In 1978, the provincial house was shifted to Amalapuri in the heart of the city. And the novitiate house was moved from Koodathai to St.Thomas Mount,Marikunnu.
In 1989, a new chapel was built under the guidance of Fr.Thomas Panthaplackal, the novice master. In 1998, a new building was added to the existing one by Fr. Sebastian Poonoly. The novitiate formation was twinned with that of the Mysore province,at Thandavapura for a few years when the number of noviceswere not sufficient on either side. Novices were sent to Marikunnu St. Thomas Mount and Thandavapura during alternate years. In 2011, as the number of novices was still on the decrease, Punaloor became the common novitiate. Taking into account the other facilities at St. Thomas Mount, Marikunnu and the need to carry on various activities here, for the time being, first year aspirants are being trained here.
