- GUNDLUPET CHAVARA BHAVAN
The territory of the province includes portions of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. Twelve acres of land were purchased very close to the main town of Gundlupet in 1979. When the Karnataka government acquired this property for a bus stand, another plot of about 14 acres near the town was purchased in 1980. Fr.John Thonipara started living in a rented house here. In 1982 the present house was built. A coconut plantation was also developed by Fr.Thonipara.The bishop of Mananthavady entrusted the care of the Syro-Malabar Catholics of this area to the ashram. It was also the first year aspirant’s house for a few years. Fr. Chacko Puthukulangara started social activities among the villagers with non-formal education and other awareness programmes. In 1991, the CMCsisters started a convent nearby and began to help with social activities. An acre of land was donated to the newly created Mandya diocese to start a parish in 2011.The paperwork for starting a school on the premises is being prepared and processed.
