Due to a shortage of priests, the Bishop of Ooty diocese requested the services of a few priests from the province in 1964.Fr. Job Myladiyil, who was sent there, was entrusted with the pastoral care of Gudalur area in Nilgiris District. Hundreds of Malayalee families had settled in this area.In 1965, Fr. Job purchased 36 acres of land, very close to Gudalur Bazar for starting an ashram.The ashram later donated five acres of land on the roadside to the MSMI sisters for running a hospital. On 2nd April 2007, construction of the present ashram building was started by Fr. Paul Chakkanikunnel and was completed by Fr. Joseph Mattam. It was blessed by Fr. FrancisThonippara, the then provincial in March 2008.
