At the initiative of Fr. Job Myladiyil, 36 acres of land were purchased at Bekkie in the Nilgiris District of Tamil Nadu. The aim was to develop it as an income generating estate for the province.A small farmhouse was started on the land in 1965 with Fr. John Thonipara as the first superior.Later, more land was added. Through persistent effort, a tea and coffee plantation were developed. As there was no parish church in the locality for immigrants, the chapel of the ashram was used as parish church for several years. Later, a separate property was bought for the parish and a church was built there. Fr. James Pallivathukkal, the then Provincial, built a small hospital,on three acres of the land using the building donated for the purpose. The hospital is now being run by MSMI sisters. A new ashram in the place of the old farmhouse has been built. The parish was handed over to the Mananthavady diocese in 1995.Fr. John Thonipara and Fr.George Nadukani are gratefully remembered for their services at Bekkie.
